Wurlitzer was a household name for years in North America; their pianos were found in thousands of homes throughout the country.  Primarily built in western New York, near Buffalo, they were reliable, affordable instruments.

Like most American builders, they experienced ownership changes as competitors from around the world began making inroads into the North American market.  For a brief period, they were owned by Baldwin, who contributed scale designs but had the pianos manufactured for them in S. Korea — first by Young Chang, then by Samick.
