A piano may be new, beautifully made, and safely delivered to a showroom, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ready to sound and respond at its best. That’s where piano preparation comes in. It’s the process of evaluating an instrument and completing the work it needs before it reaches its new owner. Depending on the piano, that may include inspection, tuning, regulation, voicing, cleaning, cosmetic care, and other adjustments.

If you’re thinking about improving your current piano, or you’re looking at a pre-owned instrument, you’ve probably come across three processes that sound similar but mean very different things in the piano industry: restoration, rebuilding, and refurbishing.

Few things bring more beauty and harmony to a room than a grand piano. For many, owning a grand is a lifelong goal. Maybe you’ve played your whole life on an upright but longed to experience the difference in sound and feel of a grand, or perhaps you finally have the space to bring one home.

Do pianos of excellence really help pianists play better? Will a better piano help you play more skillfully and with greater expression? Can you really experience more joy in playing an instrument of great quality? Without minimizing the ability and talent of the player, most experienced pianists say the quality of their piano does enhance or inhibit their ability to convey emotions through their music.
