Not many know that the company that became Grotrian was actually started by Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg, in Seesen, Germany, in 1835. He passed it on to his son, C.F. Theodor, before emigrating to the U.S. where he Americanized his name and founded the famous Steinway & Sons in New York City. In 1856, Theodor partnered with G.F.K. Grotrian. Subsequent members of that family have been involved with the company for six generations!
Although not as well-known in America, Grotrian pianos are compared with the finest premier performance instruments in the world.
This 7’ 5” Model 227 is a semi-concert grand, suitable for a serious advanced player, teacher, recordist, recital hall, or church. If you’re looking for a larger preowned performance-level grand, put this on your audition list.
