** At this writing we are very pleased to be able to offer three New York Steinway grands that were manufactured in 2024 – one of them is pre-owned, the other two were acquired from a retiring dealer.

This Model A is one of the two Steinway grands that came from the retiring dealer.  It has never been sold to a retail customer; it is virtually new and backed by a full 5-year Classic Pianos warranty, which is the same duration as that which comes from the Steinway factory.  **

Steinway’s Model A has evolved through several iterations of size and scale.  In New York, the original 19^th Century (A-1) was 6’ long, with only 85 keys, eventually becoming full 88 in 1893.  Starting in 1897, the next step (A-2) slightly increased the length, widened the tail, and increased its tonal power.  Then, in 1913 Steinway introduced the “Stretch” (A-3) with a 6’ 4” scale with even more power, dynamics, and tonal variety – inadvertently placing it in direct competition with their more expensive 6’ 11” Model B.  The “Stretch” was discontinued in New York in 1945.

Meanwhile, the Hamburg factory continued producing a 6’ 2” scale (based on the A-2).  In 2005, as the company sought to unify production between both New York and Hamburg, Steinway brought the venerable Model A to the USA.
